Renault Trucks debuts fuel-efficient powertrain with 4% lower emissions
Renault Trucks has unveiled a new powertrain for its T, T High, C, and K model ranges. The system combines an advanced engine, transmission, and driver-assistance technologies to improve efficiency and performance. It aims to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 4% in certain applications. The heart of the new powertrain is the DE13R engine. It delivers up to 540 horsepower and 2,800 Newton-metres of torque, with a maximum cylinder pressure of 250 bar. The engine also meets the NNR3 noise standard, lowering vehicle noise pollution. Increased engine braking power (Optibrake+) comes as standard, enhancing driving comfort and control.
The powertrain includes a next-generation Optidriver transmission. Updated control software and optimized shift strategies enable gear changes up to 20% faster and smoother. The Optivision+ driver-assistance system and Predictive Engine Stop & Start further cut fuel use by adjusting gear shifts and acceleration to the route profile.
For maximum energy efficiency, Renault Trucks offers the Smart Racer variant. This bundles all fuel-saving technologies into a single package. Antoine Duclaux, President of Renault Trucks, noted that decarbonising road freight transport requires multiple complementary strategies. The new powertrain is now available across selected Renault Trucks models. It promises improved efficiency, lower emissions, and better driving dynamics. The combination of advanced hardware and intelligent systems sets a new benchmark for the company’s heavy-duty vehicles.
