Russia's new EP2DM electric trains redefine suburban rail travel with smart comfort
Demikhovo Engineering Works has delivered five new EP2DM electric trains to the Central Suburban Passenger Company. These 11-car units, built entirely from Russian-made components, are now listed in the national Registry of Russian Industrial Products. The trains are set to operate on the Yaroslavl route of the Moscow Railway.
The EP2DM models feature a refreshed exterior and interior design. Lead cars come with extra lighting, while all carriages include tinted windows and a modern climate control system. This system automatically adjusts heating, lighting, and even disinfects the air.
Passenger comfort is further enhanced by LCD screens and display boards providing real-time travel updates. Lead cars also offer bike racks with charging stations and restrooms fitted with motion-activated fixtures. Each train provides 850 seats, including two spaces for wheelchair users, and every seat is equipped with USB Type-A and Type-C ports for fast device charging.
The trains were assembled at Demikhovo Engineering Works, using only domestically sourced parts. While their exact deployment schedule remains unconfirmed, they are designed specifically for the Yaroslavl commuter line.
The new EP2DM trains bring upgraded amenities to Moscow's suburban network. Their advanced features, such as automated climate control and accessible seating, aim to improve daily travel for passengers. The five units will gradually enter service on the Yaroslavl route in the coming months.
