Regular Air Service on Syktyvkar–Ust-Tsilma–Syktyvkar Route Suspended as of January 21, 2026

Russia's Ust-Tsilma District Faces Transport Collapse After Flight and Bus Cuts

The cancellation of flights comes after the expiration of a contract under which Komiaviatrans Airlines had leased an Antonov An-24 aircraft to operate the route.

Transportation Crisis Raised at Ust-Tsilma District Council Meeting

The issue was addressed at the latest session of the Ust-Tsilma District Council of Deputies, attended by municipal head Nikolai Kanev, his deputies Ruslan Filipov and A. Kislyakova, district prosecutor Denis Kiprushev, heads of local institutions, rural settlement leaders, and public representatives.

"Residents across Ust-Tsilma District are outraged by the disruption in air travel," the administration stated. "Transportation challenges have worsened across all passenger services. Due to insufficient funding, bus routes have been drastically reduced, and from April 1, the municipal enterprise Center for Housing Payments, Benefits, and Subsidies risks suspending passenger transport both within Ust-Tsilma and between district settlements."

Without Resolution, Residents—Particularly Vulnerable Groups—Face Isolation

If no solution is found, district residents, especially socially disadvantaged groups, will lose access to the district center, other settlements, the Irael railway station, and the city of Ukhta. The crisis also threatens preparations for the upcoming navigation season and the organization of river passenger and cargo transport.

Local Lawmakers Demand Federal and Regional Intervention

In response, the Ust-Tsilma District Council has resolved to appeal to Russia's Ministry of Transport, Federation Council Social Policy Committee member Yekaterina Gribkova, the government of the Republic of Komi, and the State Council of the Republic of Komi. Their demands include restoring regular air service on the Syktyvkar–Ust-Tsilma–Syktyvkar route and ensuring reliable bus and river transport for the district's residents.
