Schwallungen's County Road K 84 reopens after €2.5M reconstruction
A major reconstruction project on County Road K 84 in Schwallungen is set to finish next month. The 735-metre stretch through Eisenacher Straße will reopen on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, after a full overhaul. The works included new road surfacing, sidewalks, and upgraded underground utilities. The project involved multiple partners and a total cost of around €2.5 million. The district managed the road reconstruction, while the municipality of Schwallungen oversaw sidewalks and street lighting. KWA replaced drinking water and wastewater pipelines, and Thuringian Energy Networks buried power lines underground.
STRABAG AG, based in Ritschenhausen, carried out the construction work. The district contributed roughly €1.1 million, covering planning and other expenses. Additional funding came from the Free State of Thuringia, which provided about €800,000 in grants. Planning for the next phase—Georgstraße—has already begun. A full renewal of that section is expected to start around 2030.
The upgraded road will feature modern infrastructure, including a new bus stop and improved pedestrian access. State funding and grant programmes helped reduce costs for the municipality and KWA. The reopening marks the end of months of construction along this key route.
