Siemens Mobility delivers 80 Vectron locomotives to Finland on schedule

Siemens Mobility has completed a long-term major order in Finland with the delivery of its 80th Vectron locomotive. The specially adapted vehicles are already in service for both passenger and freight transport.

The train manufacturer Siemens Mobility has handed over the final unit of 80 Vectron electric locomotives to VR Group, marking the completion of a large-scale contract signed in 2014. According to the company, this was the largest single order for the Vectron platform at the time of signing.

Designed for Finland's broad-gauge network, the locomotives were tailored to withstand extreme climatic conditions, including temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius. They are now operational in both passenger and freight services and have been fully integrated into VR Group's fleet.

Production took place at Siemens' plant in Munich, while key components such as bogies were manufactured in Graz. The company reports that all locomotives were delivered on schedule, with the fleet having already covered approximately 72 million kilometers in service.

With the project now complete, Siemens Mobility highlights the Vectron platform's global versatility, designed to accommodate different track gauges and climatic demands. To date, the company has sold more than 2,900 locomotives of this type worldwide.
