Maharashtra Govt Alerts Machinery Over Rising Petrol Purchases, Orders Daily Monitoring Of Sales

State cracks down on fuel violations to prevent shortages and fraud

The state government has stepped up oversight of petroleum sales and transport to prevent shortages and illegal activity. Authorities have assured residents that fuel supplies remain stable and urged them not to panic buy.

Fourteen senior officials, including divisional commissioners and district collectors, have been given powers to crack down on violations in the petroleum trade.

The government has ordered daily monitoring of fuel sales and movement across the state. Officials must submit reports by 6pm each day, detailing inspections, confiscations, and penalties imposed on retailers breaking the rules.

To maintain order, administrative and police teams will assist petrol stations with crowd control. The public has been asked to avoid unnecessary stockpiling, as both petrol and diesel are available in sufficient quantities. Special provisions ensure that farmers and fishermen continue to receive fuel without disruption. Meanwhile, commercial and industrial buyers must now purchase petroleum products directly from oil marketing companies. The empowered officials can take strict action against illegal storage, black marketing, unauthorised sales, adulteration, overcharging, and the sale of substandard fuel. Their authority extends to seizing tankers and vehicles involved in violations.

The measures aim to stabilise fuel distribution and prevent exploitation. Daily inspections and enforcement will continue, with reports submitted to the state government. Authorities have reiterated that there is no shortage, and supplies will remain available for all essential sectors.
