Tallink to charter Superfast IX in three-year deal by May 1
Tallink is preparing to charter its passenger ferry Superfast IX as part of a three-year deal. The company is actively searching for a replacement vessel for the Paldiski–Kapellskär route. The handover of the Superfast IX is set for 1 May in Tallinn. The Superfast IX will remain in service between Estonia and Sweden until the handover date. During this time, it will continue transporting passengers, vehicles, and cargo as usual. Before leaving, the vessel will undergo scheduled maintenance at Turku Repair Yard in Naantali, Finland, from 3 to 18 April.
Tallink has confirmed that the Superfast IX is not ideally suited for the current route. Its large passenger capacity makes it less efficient for the Paldiski–Kapellskär connection. Despite this, the company has no plans to abandon the route and is instead looking for a vessel of the right size and configuration.
The charter agreement includes options for a two-year extension and a potential purchase of the Superfast IX. This flexibility allows Tallink to adapt its fleet based on future needs while ensuring continuity on the route. The Superfast IX will complete its final trips before being handed over on 1 May. Tallink's search for a replacement vessel continues, with a focus on maintaining reliable service between Estonia and Sweden. The company's long-term commitment to the route remains unchanged.
