A truck driver has fallen victim to a large-scale theft after stopping for the night at a motorway service area. Thieves broke into his trailer while he slept, making off with electronics worth at least €75,000. Police in Güstrow are now investigating the incident as grand larceny.
The 31-year-old driver had parked his articulated lorry at the A19 rest stop Bansower Forst. During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, unknown individuals forced their way into the trailer. The driver only discovered the break-in the following morning when he checked the vehicle.
The stolen items were mainly cleaning equipment and systems owned by a company in southern Germany. In addition to the missing goods, the trailer suffered around €1,000 in damage from the forced entry.
Authorities have launched an inquiry into the theft. Güstrow Criminal Police are treating the case as suspected grand larceny due to the high value of the stolen property.
The incident has left the driver and the affected company with significant losses. Police continue their investigation, though no arrests have been made so far. The stolen goods remain unrecovered.
