ÖBB's Nightjet expands to Zurich with new Vienna sleeper train route
Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) is expanding its Nightjet services to Switzerland. The new route will connect Vienna to Zurich, marking the first of nine planned night train destinations. Passengers can expect improved comfort and security features on board. The inaugural journey to Zurich will depart late on Sunday night. Trains will leave Vienna Central Station daily at 9:39 p.m.
Each Nightjet train carries up to 254 passengers and includes six spaces for bicycles. The new models provide more room for luggage, strollers, and sports equipment than older versions.
The trains consist of two seated carriages, three couchette cars, and two sleeping cars. Tickets start at €34.90, with various comfort classes available. For added safety, an electronic access system and video surveillance are installed. The new service will operate daily between Vienna and Zurich. It is part of ÖBB’s broader plan to introduce nine night train routes. Enhanced space and security aim to improve the travel experience for passengers.
