Massachusetts adjusts MBTA services for 2026 World Cup chaos

The 2026 World Cup will bring changes to public transport in Massachusetts from June 8 to July 9. Seven matches at Foxboro’s Gillette Stadium mean adjustments for MBTA services across trains, buses, and the subway. The MBTA will run up to 14 special trains from South Station to Foxboro for each match. Round-trip tickets for these services will cost $80.

On matchdays, the Franklin/Foxboro Line will suspend all service to Foxboro. It will also halt between Readville and Windsor Gardens. The Fairmount Line will not run to Readville either. Most Commuter Rail lines will see reduced service during the tournament. However, the MBTA is offering summer deals to ease the impact. These include 'Free Fridays' and half-price monthly passes. Subway lines and select buses will extend their hours after matches. On June 13, due to a late-night game, they will run until 4 a.m. For other matches, services will continue until around 2 a.m.

The tournament will disrupt regular schedules, but extra trains and extended hours aim to help fans travel. The MBTA’s discounts and special services are designed to manage the increased demand during the event.
